New Zealand-Bangladesh Test called off after Christchurch mass shooting
A shocking attack on a Christchuch mosque has stunned the country.
The third and final Test match between New Zealand and Bangladesh has been called off in the wake of the horrific mass shooting at a Christchurch mosque. Both teams were in lockdown Friday following the shooting at the Masjid Al Noor mosque on Deans Avenue, very close to Hagley Oval where the Test was due to begin on Saturday. Members of the Bangladesh team were at the mosque when at least one gunman opened fire. The players fled to Hagley Oval, with a team spokesperson telling AFP that they had been bussed to the mosque in Christchurch and were about to go inside when the incident happened. (READ: Bangladesh cricketers 'want to leave' New Zealand as soon as possible) Mazhar Uddin, a reporter for Bangladesh s Daily Star said, "The distraught Bangladesh players got inside a bus and laid down on the floor after the warning." Bangladeshi sports journalist Mohammad Isam was on the scene and posted a video of the players leaving the scene of incident.Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by the shocking situation in Christchurch. A joint decision between NZC and the @BCBtigers has been made to cancel the Hagley Oval Test. Again both teams and support staff groups are safe.
