ODIs in 2014: A statistical roundup
The year 2014 saw several records being emulated or broken over the course of the year.

A total of 121 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) were played in 2014 by 19 teams; Papua New Guinea was the newest entrant, playing two ODIs and winning both; 54,062 runs were scored, including 79 centuries, 292 half-centuries, 172 ducks and 21 ânervous ninetiesâ.

A total of 56,060 ODI runs were scored in 2014: 54,062 off the bat and 1,998 extras. The average runs per dismissal was 29.86, and the batting strike rate, 83.3 (equivalent to a run rate of 5.29). A total of 1,810 wickets fell, 1,682 to the bowlers and 128 run outs.

Of the Test-playing nations, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa had the highest run rate during the first 10 overs (the mandatory Powerplay) â 5.03. New Zealand had the best run rate in the death overs (41 to 50) as well â 8.66.

Bangladesh bowlers had the best economy rate in the Powerplay (4.11) while Pakistan bowlers had the worst (5.01). In the death overs, Australia produced the best performance (6.65) whereas Zimbabwe had the worst (8.32).
