Pakistan, after much uncertainty to even be a part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016, started their journey with a massive 55-run win over an in-form Bangladesh team in match 14 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Pakistan dominated the tigers throughout the match and pulled off a comfortable victory which helped them get their confidence back which was shaken post the unstable condition a few days back. While the match was a one-sided one, both the teams had moments that they can take as positives. Here are the highlights of the match. Live Cricket Scorecard: Pakistan vs Bangladesh,14th T20 Match, Super 10 Group 2, ICC T20 World Cup 2016

1. Ahmed Shehzad’s comeback: The past few months have been a roller-coaster ride for the Shehzada of Pakistan cricket. Struggling to get his form back, Shehzad was dropped from the national squad for Asia Cup 2016 and ICC World T20 2016. But as his replacement Khurram Manzoor displayed a poor performance, the selectors had to call their dependable opener back. Shehzad promptly responded with a half-century in the first match and fixated his spot there at the top while providing a solid start to the team.

2. Mohammad Hafeez’s consistent performance: The current season has been a fruitful one for Mohammad Hafeez. The player had scored good runs in the past few series and continued the form into the ICC World T20 2016. Hafeez had scored a match-winning 70 in the warm-up match against Sri Lanka and did not let his side down in the main match as well, as he scored 64 runs.

3. Shahid Afridi’s all-round performance: Much has been discussed about Shahid Afridi and his form over the past few days as the player failed to deliver any remarkable performance either with bat or ball. But Afridi came back and came back strong with an all-round performance. Afridi promoted himself up the order and came out at No. 4. He took 19 balls to score 49 runs while bagged two important wickets as well emerging as the star player of the match.

4. Soumya Sarkar’s brilliant catch: One of the positives that the Bangladesh skipper would like to take as positive from the match is Sarkar’s brilliant catch at boundary. The player not only stopped a certain well-hit six of Mohammad Hafeez but threw the ball inside and himself came into a position to take a stunner. Hafeez, who was looking dangerous, went back for 64.

5. Mohammad Aamer’s early breakthrough: One of the very few positives of Pakistan team at this point, Mohammad Aamer, continued to impress with his bowling as he provided Pakistan with an early breakthrough. Aamer clean bowled an experienced Soumya Sarkar for a duck and ensured Pakistan’s victory. Aamer later on took another wicket to end with an economy of 6.75.

6. Shakib al Hasan’s record: The only Bangladesh player who impressed was Shakib. The experienced all-rounder stood alone and scored an appreciable 50 that helped Bangladesh go past 100. He, in order, completed his 1,000 T20I runs in the format and became the second player to have that many runs and 50 wickets after Shahid Afridi.
