Indiaâs limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni has often been called as the man with Midas touch. The reason he has earned this moniker is predominantly because of his magical powers, through which he has not only picked-up players and shaped their careers, but also won the World Cups for India in 2007 and 2011.
The magical-man is all set to lead a new franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after his wizardry won his former team Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which has now been suspended for two years, two IPL titles. The new team, that has been named Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG), is reportedly very keen on getting Dhoniâs magical powers. In this desperation, they added the âsuperâ word to their teamâs name after the CSK. Further, to boost their leaderâs waning wizardry, they also sought inspiration from the greatest wizard of all-time, Harry Potter. Both Potter and Dhoni have been great sportspersons, with Dhoni being a cricket icon and Potter his âQuidditchâ counterpart.
Thus, the owners of RPSG have taken a leaf out of Potterâs book and got their teamâs logo designed on the lines of the âGolden Snitchâ, often called simply called as the Snitch. A walnut-sized gold-coloured sphere with silver wings, it is the third and smallest ball used in the game of Quidditch. It flies around the field at tremendous speed and is caught by the seeker.
It seems by getting RPSGâs logo designed after the Snitch, the team owners are trying to catch the declining magic of Dhoni. Whether it happens or not, will unfold once the ninth season of the IPL commences on April 9 this year.
