Syed Mushtaq, India’s Virender Sehwag of bygone era, was in his eighties when he travelled to England in 2002 along with many other former Test cricketers for the ‘Wisden Cricketer of the Century’ awards.

When he arrived in London, the stylishly dressed octogenarian, who had last played in England in 1946, was surprised to know that a large number of Englishmen no longer wore a tie.

“That’s nothin’,” said Bishan Singh Bedi, who had kept him company right through the flight. “Some people don’t even wear clothes!” The outspoken spin legend was referring to Sourav Ganguly’s shirt waving after India’s famous victory over England in the NatWest Trophy final at Lord’s the previous week.
