After amassing 649 for 9,  India declared their innings and proceeded to bundle out the visitors for 181 (48 overs) in the first innings and 196 (50.5 overs) in the second.

Prithvi Shaw, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja notched up centuries in India’s only innings while Ravichandran Ashwin led with 4 for 37 in the West Indies’ first innings while Kuldeep Yadav claimed his first Test five-for taking 5 for 57 in the second.

It was in June earlier this year that India had registered their biggest win by an innings before today when they beat Afghanistan by an innings and 262 runs inside two days at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. This was Afghanistan’s inaugural Test match.

Prior to this, India’s largest victory margin by an innings was achieved against Bangladesh when India won by an innings 239 runs in Dhaka in 2007 – this is now India’s third largest win by an innings.

In terms of runs, India’s biggest Test win came in 2015 in Delhi against South Africa by 337 runs. OVerall, England have the record for the biggest Test win in terms of runs by 675 runs against Australia at Brisbane in 1928.
