‘Mankading’ is once again in the news and creating furore in the cricket world. West Indies Under-19 bowler Keemo Paul Mankaded Zimbabwe’s Under-19 last player in the last over. Well this act is well within the games’ rules but many purists regard it as violation of the games’ spirit. Moreover it does not fit into the West Indian brand of cricket.

Courtney Walsh’s gentleman act in the World Cup 1987 when he did not run out Saleem Jaffer saw West Indies bow out of the tournament but won him hearts. And in ICC World T20 2012, Chris Gayle did the same but in his own trademark style. The very term Mankading leads to controversy but with Gayle around, you can expect the dose of hilarity as well.

The self proclaimed ‘Universe Boss’ is one of the most joyous characters and tends to come up with entertainment on and off the field. During the ICC World Twenty20 2012 match between England and West Indies at Pallekele Stadium, Gayle came to bowl his second over of the match in the 13th over and just before releasing his first delivery; he stopped and had almost Mankaded Eoin Morgan, who had left the crease. Gayle didn’t run him out but warned Morgan in his own. Enough said. You need to watch this.
