When Richie Benaud got his geometry wrong
His commentary had the characteristics of his cricket.

In 1956, Benaud took up a journalism position with the News of the World, and soon became a sports columnist. Benaud got into the BBC commentary box in 1960. He later moved into television. His commentary had the characteristics of his cricket – full of commonsense, direct and to the point.
However, Benaud’s geometry lessons are not the most conventional ones, and once left Australian batsman Bruce Laird in an existential crisis. One can only hope mathematics teachers around the world did not follow Richie.

Benaud commented, “Laird has been brought in to stand in the corner of the circle.”
