Most wickets in defeats: Starc leads the way here with 32 wickets, the most for an Australian and 3rd-most for a bowler in a calendar year on losing causes after Kapil Dev (36 in 1983) and Mohammad Rafique (33 in 2003). No other Australian has even taken 30 wickets in a year on losing causes. Previous best was of 28 wickets by Rodney Hogg in 1979.

A total of 542 wickets came in defeats this year, the most in a calendar year and takes the count to 19,246. The previous record was of 538 wickets in 2002.

Best figures by debutants: Colin de Grandhomme and Mehedi were the only debutant to scalp 5-wicket hauls in their debut Test. De Grandhomme took 6 for 41, while Mehedi bagged the figures of 6 for 80.

Consecutive 5-fors: Starc was the only bowler to take hat-trick of 5-fors. He did it against Sri Lanka. His figures read 5 for 44, 6 for 50 and 6 for 63.

Stuart Broad has taken the lead over Imran Khan s 362 wickets. He has now 368 wickets 3rd highest wicket-taker from England and only 16 wickets away from breaking Ian Botham s England record.

Ashwin went past Bhagwat Chandrasekhar’s 242 wickets. He has total of 248 wickets now the 4th-highest among Indians spinners. He is 19 wickets away from breaking Bishan Singh Bedi s tally.

Herath took his tally to 354 wickets and became the 4th-highest wicket-takers among left-arm bowlers. Two wickets will take him past Chaminda Vaas, which will make him 3rd on the list as well as 2nd for Sri Lanka.
