Indian boxer Shiva Thapa advanced to the quarterfinals of the bantamweight (56kg) category at the 17th Asian Games on Friday. Thapa was adjudged winner against Nadir of Pakistan by technical knockout due to injury in the round of 16 bout at the Seonhak Gymnasium.
The 20-year-old took just a minute and five seconds, recording a round one TKO-I win over the Pakistani fighter. Kuldeep Singh (men’s light heavy-81kg), Akhil Kumar (men’s light-60kg) and Amritpreet Singh(men’s heavy-91kg) – all round of 16 matches – are the other Indians in the fray Friday.
The 17th Asian Games, which will be held from September 19th  to October 4th2014 will be held in Incheon, South Korea, which will host an event for the second time in the 21stcentury after Busan played hosts in 2002. The official slogan of the games will be âdiversity shines hereâ. Overall, there will be 49 venues and 48 training facilities across the city of Incheon. The administrators have built 10 new stadiums and country have spend around USD 1.6 Billion.
