Hongkong registered a win against Malaysia in the 1st Quarter-Final of the Asian Games Men’s Cricket Competition by 7 wicket at Incheon on Tuesday.
Hongkong in pursuit of Malaysia’s 129 won the twenty over game with two balls to spare. The Hongkong side got off to a poor start as lost openers Irfan Ahmed and Waqas Barkat for 1 and 8 respectively.
Thereafter Nizakhat Khan and Jamie Atkinson put on 68 runs for the third wicket and ensured thete would not be a a collapse. Khan remained not out on 63 where as Atkinson made a useful 39 before he got out. Khan was the more aggressive of the two as he thought attack was the best form of defense, Atkinson was more intent on ensuring the Malaysian bowlers would not bag further wickets. Amongst the Malaysian bowlers Nazril Rahman was the best bowler with two wickets.
Earlier on the Hongkong bowlers never let the Malaysian batsman get away. Nadeem Ahmed was the best bowler with three scalps to his name. Nizakhat Khan to add to this 63 chipped in with two wickets. For the Malaysians captain Ahmed Faiz top-scored with 45. In the end, however, 129 was not enough.
