Asian Games 2014: Indian women’s hockey team wins bronze

Incheon: Oct 1, 2014

The Indian women’s hockey team defeated Japan 2-1 in the 3rd-4th position play-off to clinch the Asian Games bronze medal at the Seonhak Hockey Stadium on Wednesday. Vandana Kataria and Jaspreet Kaur scored for India while Akane Shibata was the lone scorer for Japan. The final will be played between China and South Korea.

Earlier India had a tough day in volleyball as the men suffered a defeat at the hands of Japan in the quarter-finals. Japan were favourites going into the game but India put up quite a fight before going down 2-3. This defeat ensured the men’s volleyball side were ousted from the Asian Games.
