Asian Games 2014: President Pranab Mukherjee congratulates Indian medallists at Asian Games

President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated Indian shooters Jitu Rai and Shweta Chaudhry for winning medals at the Asian Games. In individual messages to both, Mukherjee said: “I would like to extend my congratulations for keeping the country’s flag flying high. My best wishes to you for all future endeavours”.

Jitu Rai won gold medal in the men’s 50m air pistol event and Shweta Chaudhry got bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the Asian Games at Incheon. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced a cash award of Rs. 50 lakh for ace shooter Jitu Rai, who won a gold medal at the ongoing Incheon Asian Games.

A government spokesman said that the chief minister was happy that World No.5 Jitu Rai, who was from the state had emerged champion in the men’s 50 metre pistol event to give India its first gold medal at the 17th Asian Games.
