India havebeaten Pakistan to clinch their gold medal in the Asian games 2014. It was a dramatic match as the teams went in to the shootout tied 1-1. Goalkeeper P Sreejesh saved as many as three shots in the shootout to see India home. Pakistan were the defending champions at the Asian Games.

Pakistan took an early lead with a goal in the first quarter, but India fought back with the help of Kothajit who deflected one into the nets of Pakistan.

Both teams missed narrow opportunities to score and the stipulated time ended with teams tied at 1-1. In the shootouts, goalkeeper Sreejesh was simply brilliant and allowed only two shots to enter the net, one of which was controversial. In response Indian players shot four out of the five chances.

The win ensures India a direct entry in to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. India had to fight hard to make it to the 2012 London Games and failed in 2008.
