Patna: Seeded players Pranob Rao Gandham, Shankar, Upananda (boys) and Tasneem Meer, Harisa Dubeyand Avantika (girls) moved into the second round of Under-13 category on the opening day of the four-day All India Sub-junior Ranking badminton Championship on Thursday. Top seed in the boy’s U-13, Pranob Rao Gandham of Telengana beat Keshav Chettri of Assam by 21-9 and 21-10, while third seed Upananda R K of Manipur defeated Shailesh Singh of Maharashtra by 21-8 and 21-6. In the girl’s U-13, top seed Tasneem Meer of Gujarat beat Shreya Chittor of Telengana by 15-9 and 15-11, while Avantika Pandey of Uttarakhand defeated Dayna Devi of Manipur by 21-17, 17-21 and 21-12.

Ramvilash Kumar and Mayank Sinha of Bihar also moved into the next round in the Boy’s U-13. Earlier, state deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav formally inaugurated the four-day singles and doubles ranking championship here at the Patliputra Sports Complex Indoor Hall. State finance minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui, who is the also State Badminton Association president, was present on the occasion.
