Afghanistan players create history; break into ICC top 10 T20I rankings
In a historic moment, Afghanistan cricketers Mohammad Shahzad and Dawlat Zadran have for the first time managed to break into the top 10 of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Twenty20 International (T20I) Player Rankings since they began playing this format.
In the latest rankings released by the ICC, team’s wicket-keeper batsman Shahzad finds a place in the batsmen’s list on No. 8 with his 681 rating points. On Sunday, he clobbered a 67-ball 118, the highest individual score from an Associate nation in T20Is and fourth overall, and helped his team win against Zimbabwe.
His team-mate Zadran too finds himself at No. 8 on the bowlers’ list with 636 rating points as of January 10, 2016. There are two Indians on the lists with Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin both at No. 2 in batsmen and bowlers’ rankings, which are ruled by Aaron Finch and Samuel Badree respectively.
