Ajinkya Rahane and 48 other cricketers who received Arjuna Award

Arjuna Award is among the most prestigious honour given by Indian Government to nation’s sports persons in order to recognise their achievements in their respective sport. India’s vice-captain in Tests — Ajinkya Rahane is set to be the latest cricketer to be awarded the same. He will be the 49th cricketer overall to receive this. In 2015, Rohit Sharma was conferred with the prestigious award.

As reported by ANI, apart from Rahane, 14 other sports persons will be also awarded the bronze statue. Long-distance runner Lalita Babar, boxer Shiva Thapa, shooter Apurvi Chandela, etc. are all set to receive the same. Since the beginning of 2015, Rahane played 13 Tests in which he scored 836 runs at 55.73 and if we look at his number of this year then it becomes more impressive as he averages 121.50 in 2016. In One-Dayers too he has done pretty well since 2015. He played 25 ODIs and collected 863 runs at 41.09.

It seems like the year 2016 is lucky for him as he has been performing very well and recently he was appointed as vice-captain of Indian Test team.
