Despite Bangladesh enjoying their best run in international cricket, their cricketers seem to be making it a habit to be in the news for all the wrong reasons. Earlier this year, the arrests of fast bowlers Rubel Hossain and Shahdat Hossain in two separate cases made news and now their star batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy is grabbing the headlines not for his willow skills but for allegedly wielding an assault weapon. In a report from The Daily Star, a complaint has been lodged against Anamul for allegedly beating and stabbing a youth in Kushtia. Father of the victim Abdul Halim filed the complaint against Anamul with Kushtia Model Police station reporting that the cricketer physically assaulted his son Motaleb Hossain Bappy.

The complaint states that Bappy had an argument with Anamul’s father Jamil Hossain Lichu, who was living at a rented house owned by Abdul Halim on Sunday morning. Following this incident, Anamul and his brother Sajib beat Bappy with cricket bat before stabbing him with a sharp weapon. The victim was admitted to Kushtia general hospital.

Officer-in-charge Biplob Kumar Nath confirmed that both sides have lodged complaints against each other. When Anamul was contacted in Dhaka, the 22-year-old said that Bappy is a “drug addict” and “Bappy himself attacked us when my younger brother and I went to his house and asked why he misbehaved with my father.”
