Australia to wear Phil Hughes’ number 408 under their emblem in First Test

On Tuesday every Australian player will sport Hughes’s number in an initiative to honour their deceased team-mate’s achievements.

The Australian team will wear number 408 below the Australian emblem in the first Test to be played at Adelaide Oval against India, to give a fitting tribute to Phil Hughes.

The players take a great pride in their Test numbers, which is embroidered on their shirts, but on Tuesday every Australian player will sport Hughes’s number in an initiative to honour their deceased team-mate’s achievements.

Hughes was the 408th player to represent Australia at Test level, and could represent the country in only 26 Tests before he passed away in the most unfortunate way.

In what will be one of the most emotional matches ever played, and the Australians will look to give it their best shot.

As reported by Fox Sports, Australian coach Darren Lehmann said, “We lost a family member from our cricket community and now it’s a case of rallying around his family and the whole CA cricket family and get on with what we do and that’s play some cricket.”
