BCCI bans Pragyan Ojha from bowling due to illegal action

The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India have debarred left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha from bowling in competitive cricket due to suspect action.

Ojha is set to admit himself in an International Cricket Council (ICC)-recognised center in Chennai for corrective measures. According to reports, Ojha was immediately withdrawn from his home state association, Hyderabad’s Ranji Trophy match against Services starting tomorrow after BCCI formally informed them about his incorrect action.

Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) joint secretary Purushottam Agarwal acknowledged the fact that they received a letter from the BCCI.

“Yes, the BCCI did sent us a letter informing about their decision that Pragyan needs to undergo rehabilitation programme in regards to action correction. However they haven’t intimated us about the timeframe. Pragyan is still in Hyderabad but will head for Chennai soon,” Agarwal was reported as saying to PTI.

Ojha’s bowling action has been under the scanner for quite some time despite achieving the feat of being the fastest Indian bowler to reach the 100-wicket record, having picked up 113 wickets in 24 Tests that he has played, 21 wickets from 18 ODIs and 10 wickets from six Twenty20 matches.
