The first Twenty20 International (T20I) game of the Australia tour of England will be played at Cardiff. Yes, it was the venue for the first Ashes Test this year and the very city where the Australian downfall began. England not only went on to win the Cardiff Test but in weeks to come, they managed to clinch the Ashes 3-2 to reclaim the Urn.

Little did Steve Smith know in early July that post this Ashes, he would resume duties as Australia’s full-time skipper. With Michael Clarke retiring, Smith isn’t just the team’s top batsman but also the leader across formats.

On the eve of the first T20I against arch-rivals England, Smith posted a picture on Instagram which shows him training in the gym. He wrote, “A light Sunday evening session in Cardiff #newbalance #alwaysinbeta”

The Aussies might have lost the Ashes but the One-Day International (ODI) World Champions will look to take back the limited-overs trophy with them Down Under.
