In a first, Team India is all set to play a two-match T20I series with the current world champions West Indies in the United States of America (USA). This historic series, which will see the Indian team play in the USA for the first time ever will be played immediately after the conclusion of ongoing Test series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) confirmed the same in their press release. ALSO READ: And now MS Dhoni shines in his ‘soccer boots’.

“As part of our continuous efforts to reach out to new markets and audiences, I am very happy to announce that Team India will play two T20Is against the current world champions West Indies in the United States,” Anurag Thakur, president of the BCCI, said in a statement. “This will be a great opportunity for the cricket fans in America to watch the two champion sides in action. This will be developed into an annual cricketing event in the United States.”

Whycliffe “Dave” Cameron, president of the WICB, also echoed similar sentiments by saying that playing in the United States is a boon to his organization. The games will be played on August 27 and 28 at the Central Broward Regional Park, Fort Lauderdale in Florida, USA. With the series being a short one (just two games), the Indian board is expected to add just a couple of players to the squad. Some of the CPL matches too were played at this venue. This, in all likelihood, will mean that skipper MS Dhoni will make an international return sooner than expected. The Indian limited-overs captain’s next assignment was initially expected to be in November against New Zealand at home. But with this short series being planned at the eleventh hour, 35-year old Dhoni will get a chance to play some cricket three month before the original schedule. This indeed should come as a good news to Dhoni and his fans.

According to an Indian Express report, board is likely to send a short squad with Dhoni to lead India side in the games. Young pacer Jasprit Bumrah is expected to fly along with the Indian captain and join the squad in USA. Out of 17 member squad which is in West Indies, six are likely to return back home. The report says that Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, Stuart Binny, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav are likely to come back home after their long trip to the West Indies.
