IPL 2015: Delhi Daredevils beat Kings XI Punjab by five wickets at Pune, Stars and flops

After 11 losses on a row, Delhi Daredevils (DD) finally managed a win and it came against a strong Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). It seemed like a comfortable win but DD still managed to make a mess of it and won it with one ball to spare. The multi-million dollar signing of Yuvraj Singh proved fruitful as he gave their innings the much needed impetus as DD registered their first win this season.

Winning the toss, KXIP batted first and halfway through they were in a pretty strong position. Virender Sehwag made his form count and scored 47 from 41 balls and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha looked good for his 28-ball 39. The KXIP middle-order once again didn’t get going. Glenn Maxwell and David Miller, once again failed and DD bowlers did a good job to pull things back at the end as KXIP got to 165 for seven in 20 overs.

Turning point: Imran Tahir went for 18 runs in his first over but came back strongly. He bowled the last over of the KXIP innings and gave away only three runs and got the wickets of the big hitters George Bailey and Axar Patel. A score close to 180 was on the cards for KXIP, but once again the South African leg-spinner shone for his side.

DD batted sensibly to get to the total. Mayank Agarwal once again starred with the bat, scoring 68 from 48, and won the man-of-the-match award. He was very well supported by Yuvraj, who looked at his vintage best, striking 55 from just 39 balls. They got to a position when they needed seven from 12 balls, but a hara-kiri style batting saw them lose three wickets in the next nine balls. It required a boundary off the penultimate ball by Angelo Mathews to break the jinx.
