IPL 2015: Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kings XI Punjab by 138 runs, Stars and flops

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) wrecked Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 138 runs at Bangalore and added more misery to their run in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chris Gayle smashed a magnificent century and jockeyed his team in a dominating position.

KXIP won the toss and elected to field first, RCB got off to a flying start as Chris Gayle went all guns blazing and finally Bangalore witnessed a Gaylestorm. Virat Kohli played quite a contrasting innings of 32 and kept rotating the strike. Gayle smashed 117 off 57 deliveries in which the ball travelled towards the boundary on 19 occasions. AB de Villiers provided an impetus with his tenacious 47 off 24 deliveries and made sure RCB posted a gigantic total of 226 in 20 overs.

Chasing 227, with a batting line-up which boasts of Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, George Bailey and Wriddhiman Saha on a flat pitch is not an impossible job. KXIP got off to a calamitious start and kept losing wickets at regular intervals courtesy to some brilliant exhibition with the ball by Mitchell Starc and Sreenath Aravind. RCB bowler’s dismantled KXIP at a miserable score of 88. Barring Saha and Akshar Patel, all other batsmen failed to achieve double figure score to their names.

Turning Point: Chasing 227 a team can’t afford to put a foot wrong, KXIP lost the game in the first three overs as they lost both their openers and never got into the game from there onwards.
