It is famously known in the circuit that demigod of global cricket Sachin Tendulkar made his debut for India against Pakistan in 1989, but fortunately or unfortunately his first brush of international cricket was a couple of years earlier, not playing for India but for a Pakistan team against India! In 1987, Tendulkar fielded for Pakistan during a festival match against India in Mumbai.

And then what happened is etched in the history books he went on to dominate the game for almost three decades.

In a List A match yesterday, between India A and South Africa A, Mandeep Singh had a similar moment. India A was chasing 245 in 40 overs, when Quinton De Kock succumbed to a freak injury and left the ground. With South Africa A lacking a substitute, youngster Mandeep Singh was compelled to take the field. The visiting side already had their video analyst Hendrikus Coertzen fielding for them when the Punjab batsman was brought on, sporting the name of Eddie Leie on the back of his jersey.

What added to South Africa's misfortune is the fact that as many as 10 of their cricketers are out of the squad of 16 including their manager after suffering food poisoning. All the 10 players were hospitalised and the situation has forced the South Africans to request a change in schedule.

Mandeep will now be hoping to don the blue soon.
