MRF likely to buy Chennai Super Kings

Tyre-manufacturers MRF have shown interest in buying Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, India Cements, the owners, are yet to seek permission from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the formalities to begin and is scheduled to be put in order ahead of the IPL Governing Council meeting, scheduled next week on February 9.

MRF have been associated with the game and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Academy (TNCA). According to The Asian Age, Varun Manian, a close aide of former BCCI President N. Srinivasan and an entrepreneur is also in the race to buy a stake in the franchise.

Earlier, Supreme Court announced that the future of CSK and Rajasthan Royals will be decided by a separate three-member committee consisting of former justices of the apex court.

The Court also looked into the matter of N Srinivasan’s conflict of interest, due to him being the President of BCCI as well as the chairman of India Cements.
