Sachin Tendulkar maybe the greatest batsman but at the same time he is also a proven prankster. On Friday, the cricket legend celebrated his 42nd birthday and on the same day, former Indian skipper Ajit Wadekar, while addressing as the key speaker at the Legends Club of CCI, spoke about the batting maestro’s mischievous side.

“There was this incident in New Zealand. It was on my birthday, which is April 1. I was half asleep when at stroke of midnight, Sachin was at my room door with a serious look on his face,” Wadekar was quoted in a report from Press Trust Of India (PTI).

“I asked Sachin as to why he was knocking at my door at such an odd hour and he said that something was wrong with Kapil Dev. I wore my pyjamas and went to Kapil’s room. When we entered the room, I saw the entire team with a cake and champagne bottle. I was shocked and surprised,” he further recalled.

Wadekar brought a hearty laughter from the club when he said, “Suddenly, from the connecting room, belly dancers, six of them, walked in and started dancing. I wondered this must have been Sachin’s idea as Sunny (Sunil Gavaskar), though a commentator on that tour was not to be seen. Sunny is famous for his pranks but this must have been Sachin’s idea.”

It was surely an evening which was dedicated to the Master Blaster, who in his two decades of career has entertained the whole of India. Above all, Tendulkar has been a role model for all the youngsters not just in cricket but also in other walks of life.
