Sean Abbott opts out of the weekend club games

Sean Abbott will not play this weekend’s Sydney club games as the Australian bowler still doesn’t seem ready for competitive cricket since Phil Hughes’ death.

The 22-year-old all-rounder had returned to training with New South Wales on Tuesday and had attended Hughes’ funeral the following day.

Abbott, who made his debut for Australia in October, has drawn sympathy from the entire cricket community.

As reported by Guardian, Abbott will not appear for his club side Sydney University this weekend. New South Wales chief executive Andrew Jones said that Abbott’s return has been left to him.

“He’s in the same boat as everybody else. It’s a matter for him to see what he wants to do so we’ll let him make that decision.

We’ll just regroup then and confirm where everybody is at and if everyone’s comfortable to play or not comfortable to play or where individuals are at, and go from there,” said Jones.
