Sunil Gavaskar backs Indian selectors’ decision to ignore the ‘Big Five’

According to cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, the ‘Big Five’ haven’t done enough in the domestic circuit to be merit a place in the World Cup squad. He believes that the decision to leave out cricket stars Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Gautam Gambhir for India’s World Cup probables list is justified and has backed the Sandeep Patil led selection committee.

Speaking to NDTV, Gavaskar also said, “It was not a surprise because they did not figure in the playing XI for over a year and a half.

However the Little Master doesn’t feel that the World Cup snub is a definite end to their careers, especially for Sehwag and Yuvraj.

“You can never say it (career) is finished because cricket is a funny game. It does look like it is the end of the road for them but they will have to score tons of runs to stake their claim for the team,” the former Indian captain added.
