The second Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Hamilton is a decisive game for the visitors as a win over her would square the two-match series. Day 1 of the second Test saw Sri Lanka scoring 264 runs for the loss of seven wickets at stumps. As batting was never easy in tough New Zealand conditions but the visitors have stuck to their guns and fought with immense mettle to see themselves in a modest position.
They got off to a promising start but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Dinesh Chandimal, skipper Angelo Mathews and Milinda Siriwardana played some good knocks and their skipper still remained unbeaten on 63. Their batting was unfortunate as they suffered couple of run outs.
Tim Southee and Trent Boult picked couple of wickets each and Doug Bracewell chipped in with the prized scalp of Chandimal. Twittterati have praised Sri Lanka for their resistive batting and confronting the pumped Kiwi attack on Twitter. We present you with the pick of the tweets.
Excellent day’s play for Sri Lanka considering the Green top, 264/7 as rain ends play in day 1 #NZvsSL #Cricket

First time 2 Sri Lanka batsmen have hit 3 or more sixes in the same innings of a Test – Mathews and Siriwardana 3 sixes each. #NZvsSL Bharath Seervi (@SeerviBharath) December 18, 2015
A good battle by #SriLanka batsmans. But #NewZealand came back strongly by taking 3 quick wickets before rain. #NZvsSL

I do wish Sri Lanka hadn’t doctored their batting. Andrew (@shortflyslip) December 18, 2015
Good positive batting by Sri Lanka on a green seamer. Attacking fields have helped but the mindset is simply not purely survival #SLvNZ
