South African cricketer Faf du Plessis made an appeal for donations on his official Instagram account to refuel the choppers which have been constantly used for the rescue operations of the widespread fires in the Cape’s Southern Peninsula. The Cape fires have already seen hundreds being forced to leave their homes.

His wife, Imari du Plessis also shared pictures and appreciative messages for the firefighters who are risking their lives to fight the multiple blazes, with strong winds fanning flames.

God answered our prayers and I’m moving into our new house today, covered in ash and all. My prayers are with the brave fire fighters still working so hard out there. May they experience supernatural inner strength and be held in His hands for protection. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? (‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭35‬ NIV).

The batsman and pace bowler Dale Steyn, who both have houses in the affected area expressed their concerns and tweeted about the same on March 2. Steyn even gave the official pre-match press conference a miss on Monday due to the worrying situation back in South Africa near his home.
