Cheteshwar Pujara best Indian batsman to bowl at in nets, says Ravichandran Ashwin

Star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is basking in the glory of being India’s frontline spinner of late. His performance in the Indian subcontinent has been a major reason of Team India’s recent successes. And in future too, a lot will depend on him as far as team’s success is concerned.

Recently, the tall-spinner opened-up on a number of topics during a live chat session with his fans. While answering one of the questions, Ashwin named the Saurashtra run-machine Cheteshwar Pujara as the batsman he loves the most to bowl at nets amongst his team-mates.

Terming the experience of bowling to the Indian batsmen in nets as ‘nightmarish’, Ashwin said, “When I bowl to some of my teammates, they just take you to the cleaners. From the first ball, there’s hardly any setting rhythm when you are bowling in the nets to the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Pretty much most of them keep going hammers and tongs. You feel so small sometimes that you’re probably not even good enough bowling to these guys.”

Ashwin further added he likes bowling to Pujara, “One batsman who I really enjoy bowling to in the nets is Cheteshwar Pujara. He generally treats it in the same way like he does in the game. Many of the others try and improve what they want to improve but Pujara puts net practice to maximum use.”

Now that’s a huge compliment to Pujara, who is considered as one of the technically most complete batsmen in Team India. Bothe the players will have a huge role to play in next 18 months, as the team plays majority of its Test cricket at home during the period. For now, Ashwin will be focussing on the Asia Cup and the ICC World T20 while Pujara will have his eyes set on the Ranji Trophy title when his team takes on heavyweights Mumbai in the final.
