Cricket fraternity remembers Phil Hughes on his first death anniversary

November 27 marks the first death anniversary of former Australian cricketer Phil Hughes, who had tragically passed away aged 25, two days after being hit during a match between New South Wales and South Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) last year.

The terribly sad incident, that left the world shaken, occurred on the cricket field when a rising delivery by Sean Abbott fatally struck him on the back of his neck when he tried to pull that ball. The entire cricket community had come together to pay tribute to the promising young life taken too early.

On the occasion of his first death anniversary, the cricketing community is paying tribute to Hughes on the first day of the historic Adelaide Test between Australia and New Zealand. National anthems at the Adelaide Oval will take on extra emotional significance with no minute’s silence scheduled for the anniversary of Phillip Hughes. To respect the wishes of Hughes’ grieving family, Friday’s remembrance will be extremely low key compared to last year’s Adelaide Test which occurred just a week after the young batsman’s death. Players from both teams will wear black armbands and during the tea break, a tribute package will play on the big screen at exactly 4.08pm – Hughes’ Test playing number. A message reading ‘Remember 408’ will be displayed on the big screen for the duration of the Test. Players have been trying to keep things very low key this week out of respect to the Hughes family – who won’t be in attendance – but individuals will be free to make their own private tributes to Hughes as they wish
