It seems luck is smiling on young English cricketer Jonny Bairstow. First he enjoyed a terrific county season, which led to his England recall. He then played a winning knock for England on his One-Day International (ODI) return against the New Zealand. It was followed by his Test recall during the victorious Ashes campaign. And now, the Yorkshire lad has been named as the player of the year by the Cricket Writers’ Club, according to a report in The Guardian. Bairstow had earlier won the County Championship Cricketer of the Year award. He had secured the highest number of votes after scoring a mammoth 1,108 runs from nine games for the title winners. His consistent run this season impressed the cricket writers who named his as their choice, summing-up a hugely successful summer for the 26-year-old.

Bairstow had in 2011 won the young player of the year award, which went to his county-mate Jack Leaning this year. Bairstow will be travelling to the UAE next month as a part of the England Test and ODI squads to play a series against Pakistan. He would be hoping that his golden run continues and he contributes a lot more to the team’s cause.
