Jason Gillespie scores a double hundred, but is not picked again for his country

On April 19, 2006, Jason Gillespie created history by becoming the first night watchman in 1799 Tests to score a double century. Gillespie achieved the feat against Bangladesh at Chittagong.

Gillespie was sent in as night watchman by skipper Ricky Ponting, who was originally scheduled to bat at No 3. But Gillespie, outlasted his illustrious batting mates like Ponting and Mike Hussey to remain unbeaten with 201.

Gillespie got a hero’s welcome when he came back into the pavilion at the end of the innings, but he never again batted for Australia. The Chittagong Test was his final appearance for Australia.
