Nadkarni’s love for maidens!

If Bapu Nadkarni was played today, he would have been a major draw. Nadkarni was one of the most economical of bowlers who has to his credit some of the most sustained spells of miserly bowling.

At the end of Day Three of the 1963-64 Madras Test against England, Nadkarni’s analysis read 29-26-3-0. And that spell included a Test record 21 maidens in a row!

This was not a freak spell. In the 1960-61 series against Pakistan, he registered figures of 32-24-23-0 at Kanpur. Nadkarni then followed those figures with analysis of 34-24-24-1 at Delhi.

Nadkarni played 41 Tests and took 88 wickets and conceded just 1.67 runs per over over in his Test career.
