The Eleventh Commandment

Uton Dowe was one of those West Indians who made it to the Test level, but did not really make it big. He played four Tests, and had a bowing average of 44.50.

He was hit all over the park by Keith Stackpole at Sabina Park in 1972-73 and had to be taken off. Rohan Kanhai eventually brought him back towards the end of the day to give his tired bowlers a rest.

The decision was “greeted by a booming voice”, to quote Ian Chappell: “Hey Kanhai, you not heard de eleventh commandment: Dowe shalt not bowl.”
