The night riders of Hampshire!

When the great cricketing philanderer Shane Warne was playing for Hampshire, it was said cheekily that they should probably named the county ‘Humpshire’!

But the county had been hugely notorious for its amorous pursuits, if commentator Henry Blofeld is to be believed.

Blofeld say that the training diet when the county was led by Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie in the sixties was ‘wine, women and song.’

According to Blofeld, Mackenzie was once asked what time he liked his players to be in bed.

And Mackenzie apparel replied: “By nine.”

The person was very surprised to hear that and asked Mackenzie: “Isn’t that a bit early?”

To which Mackenzie replied: “Well, play does start at 11.30 am!”
