Vaas assures himself of the man of the match award in the first over itself!

Chaminda Vaas is the only bowler to take a hat-trick with the first three balls of a One-Day International. The left-arm seamer performed the feat in the 2003 World Cup at City Oval, Pietermaritzburg.

Vaas bowled Hannan Sarkar with the first ball of the match, took a return catch of Mohammad Ashraful with the second ball and then completed the ‘trick by having Ehsanul Haque caught by Mahela Jayawardene.

New man Sanwar Hossain hit a boundary of the fourth ball and then Vaas bowled a wide off the fifth. Vaas then struck for the fourth time in the over when he had Hossain leg before wicket for his fourth wicket in five balls another new record in ODIs.

Vaas finished with six for 25 in 9.1 overs, but his man of the match award was probably decided in the first over of the match itself!
