When Sachin Tendulkar almost dismissed Kapil Dev fielding for Pakistan

It was on November 15, 1989 that Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut when he played the first Test at Karachi National Stadium a match in which Waqar Younis also made his Test debut. But not many know that before Tendulkar made his international debut he had actually ‘played’ for Pakistan!

When an Imran Khan-led Pakistan played at match at the Brabourne Stadium in 1987, Javed Miandad and Abdul Qadir had to leave the field at lunch time. The Pakistanis needed a substitute and Tendulkar was asked to field. In fact, Tendulkar almost dismissed Kapil Dev. But after running in around 15 meters, he could not reach the ball to take the catch.

Tendulkar recalled the moment in his book, ‘Playing it My Way’.
