Cricketers often get indulged in many other professions other than cricket. Many cricketers get associated with business ventures like food chains, etc. While some of them have even tried their luck and flirted with acting and to name one of these many is South Africa’s wicketkeeper Dane Vilas.

In 2008, Vilas was casted as Allan Donald in a South African film named ‘Hansie’. It’s a feature film based on the real story of South African cricket legend Hansie Cronje. The film was directed by Regardt van den Bergh and produced by Cronje’s brother Frans Cronje with Frank Rautenbach and Sarah Thompson in the lead. The movie was released on September 24, 2008 in South African cinemas.

Vilas was then 22 year-old and the best fit for Donald’s role as he was playing professional domestic cricket. Vilas has now been included in the South African squad which will be touring for a long series which included Tests, One-Day Internationals (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20). The series kicks start with a T20 game the beautiful ground of Dharamsala on October 2.

The circle seems to be complete for Vilas. It’s in India where Cronje got caught in the web of match-fixing that tainted his illustrious career. It was in 2000. And Villas now 30, is touring India as a part of South African squad.
