Eight fake Twitter accounts of cricketers

Most international cricketers have a presence on social media to connect with their fans and followers. However, there are a few fakeaccounts that have attracted quite a bit of attention on Twitter for their hilarious tweets. Nishad Pai Vaidya lists out eight fake accounts with huge following:

1.  @KPGenius

This fake account caused quite a stir in 2012 when Kevin Pietersen was axed from the England team for sending derogatory text messages about his teammates to the rival South African side. Pietersen was unhappy in the England dressing room at the time and felt that some of his teammates were behind the spoof account. A couple of years later, Pietersen mentioned in his autobiography that he suspected Graeme Swann, Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad for running in. Richard Bailey, a friend of Broad’s, claimed that he was behind the account though he asserted that none of the players were behind it. However, Alex Stewart, the former England captain, told BBC Radio 5 that Bailey had told him that the players also accessed the account.

The account is not operational now.

2.  @NasirJamshed_

If you enjoy a good laugh at the expense of the burly Pakistan opener NasirJamshed, his parody account is one you’d follow. Titled ‘Big Nas’, this account often resorts to imaginative events inside the Pakistan dressing room. Though the parody account majorly targets the real Jamshed, it also makes fun of Umar Akmal, ShahidAfridi, MohammadHafeez among others. An example of his wit: “Many people saying, ‘Hey Nas, watch Game of Throne’. I seen already. Too much fighting for throne then Azhar Ali come from nowhere &win game.” The account was subject to some controversy during the recent World Cup as his tweet about Bangladesh’s victory and the 1971 war caused a bit of heartburn on Twitter. However, the fake Jamshedremains one of the most popular cricket-related parody accounts on Twitter, boasting of more than 60,000 followers.

3.  @SirJadeja

As the moniker of ‘Sir’ caught on in 2013, RavindraJadeja became an iconic figure on the social media. One fan has even started an account @SirJadeja, which has over 1,82,000 followers. The account is so popular that the likes of DeneshRamdin, Sardar Singh, Amitabh Bachchan and the Delhi Daredevils follow it. “Form is temporary, I’m permanent,” reads the bio, taking a dig at some of the supposed Jadeja miracles. The tweets often emphasise on Jadeja’s ‘greatness’. Here is a witty example: “S0orry guys. Didn’t get a chance to play for #AUSvIND as I was busy playing #SAvWI wearing #ABDevilliers’s mask.#INDvsAUS #WIvSA.” There are tweets in times of national disaster, shifting away from cricket, but they are largely centredaround the aura of ‘Sir’ Jadeja. Here is another example:

4.  @Trendulkar

Unlike the ‘Sir Jadeja’ or the Jamshed accounts, this one does not claim to be a version of the great man. However, it is merely an avatar, or a confluence between the Tendulkar and the concept of trends. The operator doesn’t hide behind the garb of a pseudonym and has introduced himself as ApoorvSood in the bio. While there are tweets about different topics, this account gets particularly active during cricket matches. It created ripples during the India-Pakistan Asia Cup encounter last year. Here is a tweet on the day India lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy to Australia: “Congrats Australia. But, Kingfisher is still better than Fosters.” Here is another satirical tweet after India’s recent series-defeat in Bangladesh:

No wonder, he commands a 63,000-strong following!    

5.  @SirIshantSharma

After Jadeja, Ishant Sharma is perhaps the most mocked Indian cricketer on the social media. His inconsistencies are often riducled by @SirIshantSharma. And guess what! @SirJadeja is one of the followers.” Just sent a friend request to Jason Holder, Jerome Taylor and Dwayne Smith. #SAvWI #WIvSA #ABDevilliers,” is what he tweeted after AB de Villiers bludgeoned 149 off 44 balls against West Indies earlier this year. And the bio reads, “India’s greatest bowler ever. I don’t just reverse swing the ball; I reverse swing the whole match.” Here is another example of the jugalbandi between this account and ‘Sir Jadeja’:

This was promptly retweeted by ‘Sir.’

6.  @notdavidwarner

The mercurial David Warner’s cricketing stakes may have risen over the last year, but his on-field behaviour has often attracted attention. To mock that, there is an account @notdavidwarner, which commands a following close to 10,000. The tweets are majorly about cricket and are supported by a picture or two.

    7.  @NohitSharma

The best way to silence your critics is by performing, which is exactly what Rohit Sharma did to his parody account. In 2012, Rohit was in the midst of a lean spell when @NohitSharma surfaced on Twitter, mocking the ‘talented’ batsman. At the time of writing, it has only 32 followers and has been quiet for over two years. With Rohit finding consistency, there was no point in parodying him anymore.

8.  @NotNossy

Kane Williamson is one of the young stars of international cricket, but unlike his contemporaries, he doesnt have a presence on the social media. However, @NotNossy is a parody account, which generally doles out hilarious tweets to his 6000 odd followers.
