Former English cricketer Tom Graveney passes away at 88

Britain’s Press Association announced on Tuesday confirmed the death of former England captain and president of Marylebone Cricket Club Tom Graveney at the age of 88. Graveney played 79 Tests and scored 4882 runs at a poignant average of 44.38 in his enticing international career. He had 11 glorious centuries to his name in Test cricket. He played county cricket for Gloucestershire and Worcestershire and had a stint with Queensland in Australia too. Post-retirement he also flirted with commentary and shared his divine cricketing knowledge. He was appointed as MCC president in 2005 and was honorary life member of Lord’s club.

Lord’s official Twitter account updated a post which reads: “Deeply saddened to hear of the death of former @englandcricket captain and MCC President Tom Graveney.”

David Leatherdale, Worcestershire chief executive was quoted in a report from Agence France-Presse said, ““Tom has been a major figure in Worcestershire’s history and everyone at the club is saddened by today’s news and our thoughts go out to the Graveney family at this sad time. He was one of the stalwarts of our first two Championship triumphs and will be hugely missed by everyone at Worcestershire CCC and by cricket as a whole.”
