In a touching tribute to Australian opener Phil Hughes, Gautam Gambhir planted a sapling in his memory at Delhiâs Roshanara Cricket Ground on Sunday.
Delhi is playing Saurashtra in their opening Ranji trophy match at the same ground. Gambhir, who was one of the heroes of Indiaâs triumph in World Cup 2011 and World Twenty20 championship in 2007, was omitted from Indiaâs World Cup 30 probables list which was declared earlier this month. However that didnât stop him from scoring a brilliant 147, which could be a match winning effort.
The Delhi captain had plated two saplings in memory of Hughes, who passed away last month and also for former Delhi cricketer Raman Lamba, who too died while playing the game in 1998. The image was posted by Gambhirâs Google Plus account.
