How Pranav Dhanawade bullied the ‘little’ bowlers

Earlier this month, 15-year-old Pranav Dhanawade became the first ever batsman in recorded cricket to smash 1000 runs in an innings. The bowler to whom he was most severe was Ayush Dubey, who can be described as ‘little’ in its literal way. A pacer, standing 4 feet 4 and aged 10, he can only try and act menacing.

Pranav smashed an unbeaten 1009 from 323-balls for his KC Gandhi school and Ayush gave away 350-runs from his 23 overs. A report fromIndian Express, quotes the young bowler on what was he going through during the carnage.

Young Ayush hasn’t forgiven his tormentor and recalling the incident, he spoke about a conversation he had with Pranav in the middle.

“Bas kar na. Aur kitna marega? I told him. But he asked me to go back and said ‘Ja, ja bowling kar. Aur bahut maarna hai’ (‘Enough is enough. How much more will you score?’ I told him. But he asked me to go back and said ‘Go and bowl, I will hit you for many more),” said Ayush.

Though a lot of records were notched up that day, not everything was fair. Ayush and his classmate Sarth Salunke, another new ball bowler and half an inch taller than his friend, belong to a different age group. They hadn’t bowled more than nine overs each, not bowled on a pitch longer than 16 yards or held a full-sized ball.

While it was unfair on these young kids, Pranav still has to be given full marks for his stamina to score 1000-runs and maintain a strike-rate over 300 for a period of 327-balls.
