Cricketing demi-god Sachin Tendulkar has adopted a small village down-south named, Puttamraju  Kandriga village, situated in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.
After the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance came into being, Â Modi has asked Tendulkar to adopt a village (not their own) and work towards its development. A Rajya Sabha MP, Tendulkar has been working quietly for the wellbeing of a village which most people in the country have not heard of before. But how did Tendulkar zero in on this village?  According to Nellore resident Sivapradeep Reddy im Quora,  Tendulkar and the village’s District Collector (DC) were returning from USA on the same flight. The DC approached the maestro and spoke to him for nearly an hour. He asked the legend about his post-retirement and what he is planning to do with the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division (MPLADS) funds which a Members of Parliament (MP) receives each year. That is where the idea of adopting the village took roots in Tendulkar’s mind.
Â
Post Tendulkarâs adopting the village, Tendulkar has turned a slummy village to a modern wonder with tiled pavements, with underground sewage network, treatment plant, storm-water drains, 24-hour water and power supply, a playground and a community hall. This Andhra Pradesh hamlet, about 150 km north of Chennai, with infrastructure that many an Indian cities would envy, is quite unlike any other in the region or probably even the State. And, according to Tendulkar, âWe plan to do much more.â  In fact, what makes Tendulkar happy is the sanitation and its improvement.
