Virat Kohli’s philosophy too revolves around the attitude and charisma that Viv Richards brought to the game.

Indian captain Virat Kohli said that his focus has always been to do the right thing and asserted that he plays for the team to win rather than for perceptions or reputations.

‘I don’t play for people, perceptions or reputations. I only play for the team to win,” Kohli to Michael Holding in an interview to Sky Sports after the first day’s play of the 5th Test. I didn’t start to play for numbers. People will only remember your attitude and what you brought to the field,’ said Kohli.

He went on to add: ‘I am focused on having a very solid life and being happy with life and doing the right thing on a daily basis. Then, everything feels like an enjoyable journey and part of the larger picture.”

Kohli’s flamboyance and the rate at which he has been racking up the numbers and passing milestones, invariably draws comparison with West Indian legend Viv Richards and taking a cue from the Richards, Kohli’s philosophy too revolves around the attitude and charisma that Richards brought to the game.

“Nobody talks about Sir Viv Richards’ average,”said Kohli, adding, “They talk about his attitude and the charisma he brought to the field, how he inspired people. I see this as a greater responsibility to be put in the position I am by that power, to inspire people. For that, I need to do the right thing from morning till night.
