ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Glenn Maxwell scores the second-fastest World Cup hundred
Glenn Maxwell scored the second-fastest hundred in the World Cup history, when he reached the mark in 51-balls, during Australia’s match against Sri Lanka at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in the on going ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 on Sunday.
Ireland all-rounder Kevin O’Brien still holds the record for the fastest World Cup hundred, which he achieved against England in Bangalore in ICC World Cup 2011. (Live streaming and pick of the tweets: Australia vs Sri Lanka, Sydney)
Maxwell’s knock contained 10 fours and four sixes, and put Australia in a commanding position. He was dismissed for 102 from just 53 balls, and Australia were 376 for six in 50 overs. (ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Points Table)
Earlier electing to bat, Australia made two changes to their side. Shane Watson, who scored 67 from 41, and Xavier Doeherty made their way in the side in place of Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazlewood.
