ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: MS Dhoni is the most-mentioned Indian player on Twitter

India moved into the quarter-final round of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 with authority after winning all the six matches in the group stage. They played and won their first four matches in Australia before playing the final two games in New Zealand.

What has been most spectacular is the performances of the bowlers; they have scalped 60 wickets, bowling out their opponents in all the matches. Mohammad Shami is currently joint second highest wicket taker in the tournament with 15 wickets. But that cricket is not only a batsman’s game is reflected in the fan interest. On Twitter, it is India’s One-Day International (ODI) captain MS Dhoni, who is the most mentioned Indian player according to the statistics given by Twitter India. Behind him are India’s opener Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharmaand Virat Kohli.

The top six Indian players mentioned on Twitter during the Pool B matches are:

1)    MS Dhoni (@msdhoni)

2)    Shikhar Dhawan (@SDhawan25)

3)    Rohit Sharma (@ImRo45)

4)    Virat Kohli (@imVkohli)

5)    Ravichandran Ashwin (@ashwinravi99)

6)    Suresh Raina (@ImRaina)

It is surprising that apart from Ravichandran Ashwin, who could be termed as an all-rounder, none of the bowlers feature in the list. The likes of Shami, Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma have been outstanding in the tournament so far. There no mention of middle order batsman Ajinkya Rahane who has been playing well as well.
