ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Yuvraj Singh praises MS Dhoni, backs India to retain the title

A lot has been speculated about the relationship between two of India’s finest cricketers – Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni. It reached a low point when Yuvraj wasn’t picked for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and Yograj Singh, a former cricketer and Yuvraj’s father, lashed out at Dhoni, accusing him of purposely keeping his son out of the event. Though Yuvraj later apologised on behalf of his father, the incident left fans with a bitter taste and the speculations of a rift between India’s most successful skipper and the man-of-the-tournament of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, only widened.

However on Monday, Yuvraj came out in support of Dhoni and praised his leadership. He further stated that the Indian team’s stellar show in this World Cup, makes him believe that the defending champions can retain the trophy.

As reported by PTI, Yuvraj who inaugurated a cricket academy in Gwalior, said, “The way our team is performing under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the World Cup clearly manifests that it will retain the world champions title.”

Yuvraj praised Dhoni’s leadership and said that his strategies have worked well as India managed to win all their six matches in the group stage. Yuvraj’s superb all-round show was one of the main reasons for India’s successful triumph in the 2011 edition. It was the second time that the side lifted the trophy after Kapil Dev’s men achieved it for the first time in 2011.
